Chin singers from Burma, Ms Chaw Su Khin
and Sangpi are now in Australia, entertaining at gospel concerts and
visiting both Burmese and Chin churches as part of the programmes for
encouraging youths to grow in Christian manners.
The Chin duo, invited by Sydney-based Burmese churches, have travelled cities in the south-eastern parts of Australia during Christmas holidays since mid-December, according to the Chinland Today.
Pi Thang Dal, leader of Melbourne
Burmese Community Church (MBCC), said it was such a pleasure to have
received two well-known Chin singers in Australia during school breaks
when most teenagers would normally go out doing nothing.
"We invited to Melbourne to sing gospel
songs at a Christian fellowship organized for two nights, with one in
the east and another in the west," added Pi Thangi.
The two singers wowed more than 500 people at a Christian concert held in Adelaide, according to the Chinland Today.
Sangpi said he was much encouraged by
the unexpected turnout as he thanked the organizers of each event so far
during their ongoing visit.
In October this year, the Chin Christian
Council in Australia (CCCA), a new umbrella body of Chin Christian
committee was formed in Melbourne in an effort to strengthen
relationship and collaboration.
It is estimated that there are more than
4,000 Chins living in Australia, most of them being resettled as
refugees from Chin State, Burma under the UNHCR resettlement programme
from India and Malaysia. Source: Chinland Guardian
